Not the Saturday Prize Puzzle – 058

A puzzle by Radler

+– + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +

Foreword

Welcome to the latest in our series of weekly puzzles.

This puzzle from Radler lacks his usual trademark theme, but has a puzzle within a puzzle.  Solve the outer puzzle first and then the clues for the inner puzzle can be constructed.  A word of warning – the answer to 1 across is in Chambers, but only as an alternate spelling – it should be easy to derive from the wordplay.

Setter’s Notes

There’s no theme in this puzzle, but to add, I hope, a little interest, the 6 lights forming the middle of the puzzle are isolated from the rest. The (normal cryptic) clues for those are formed from some of the answers in the main part of the crossword.
