Eight across answers are examples of 16 across, but with one extra letter.  These answers are defined normally, but the subsidiary parts of their clues omit the extra letter.  The eight extra letters could be rearranged to form another 16 across – what is it?

Solvers should enter just their solution in the answer box below. There is no need to send a completed grid. Closing date for entries is midnight on July 19th 2014. The winner will receive a copy of The Times ~ How to Crack Cryptic Crosswords kindly donated by its author, Tim Moorey.  All entries are confirmed by email. In the event of two or more entries being received from the same solver all of these entries will be disqualified, except that mistakes can be corrected by using the box below and clearly requesting that the earlier entry be withdrawn.

Please note that, due to punitive postal charges, while the competition is open to all, the prize is only available to UK solvers.

Feedback on puzzles is welcomed and will be passed on to setters. A review will be published after the closing date.
